Tech Zone Security Solutions is a family-owned commercial security and technology company built on decades of experience, trusted relationships, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
Today, A & J SMITH LLC, doing business as Tech Zone Security Solutions, is owned and operated by Amber and Jason Smith.
While the name and ownership are entering a new chapter, the experience, relationships, and family legacy behind Tech Zone continue.
More Than 25 Years in the Making
The roots of Tech Zone date back to 2000, when Bob and Lori Smith began building what would eventually become Tech-Zone Central IA Systems.
As technology evolved, so did the business.
What began as a local technology company grew into an experienced security systems operation serving schools, businesses, municipalities, government facilities, agricultural operations, law enforcement facilities, and other organizations.
Over the years, Tech Zone expanded its capabilities in video surveillance, access control, structured cabling, network infrastructure, system design, and complex commercial installations.
The work eventually extended far beyond Central Iowa, with projects completed throughout the Midwest and across the country.
But the most important thing built over those years was not a list of completed projects.
It was trust.
Long-standing relationships with customers, vendors, contractors, and industry partners became the foundation of the business—and that foundation continues today.

Carrying the Family Business Forward
In 2026, the Smith family began the next chapter of the business.
As Bob and Lori prepared to transition from ownership, their son Jason and daughter-in-law Amber formed A & J SMITH LLC and began carrying the family business forward under the name Tech Zone Security Solutions.
This is more than a change in company name or ownership.
It is the continuation of a family business and the beginning of its next generation.
Amber and Jason are building on the foundation created by Bob and Lori while developing the systems, services, and capabilities needed for the future.
Bob and Lori remain important parts of the Tech Zone story. Their experience, knowledge, relationships, and guidance continue to play a valuable role as the business moves into its next chapter.
